Why are my brakes squeaking when I stop?

Squeaking is usually caused by small metal wear indicators on the pads, designed to scrape against the rotor and warn you the pads are thin and need replacement soon.

Is it safe to drive with grinding brakes?

No. Grinding means the friction material is gone and metal is contacting metal, which increases stopping distance and damages rotors and calipers with continued driving.

Why does my brake pedal feel soft or spongy?

A spongy pedal usually means air is trapped in the hydraulic lines, or the brake fluid has absorbed enough moisture to affect its performance. Both call for a system bleed and fluid flush.

Do I need new rotors every time I replace brake pads?

Not always, but they need to be measured. If a rotor is below the manufacturer's minimum thickness or heavily grooved, it should be replaced so the new pads seat properly.

What is a brake fluid flush?

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time. A flush replaces the old, contaminated fluid in the lines and calipers with fresh, high-boiling-point fluid.

Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?
